Celebrate the beginning of spring with the Kiwanis Club of Washington, D.C., and our nonprofit partner, City Blossoms. City Blossoms is dedicated to cultivating the well-being of our communities through creative, kid-driven gardens. We will be preparing the gardens for spring at Eastern Senior High School.

About This Space: Eastern is home to half our year-round, garden-based Youth Entrepreneurship Cooperative program. At the core of the program is a youth-led business called Mighty Greens. Through this business, Youth Staff learn to combine their interests in environmental and food justice work with micro-enterprise and job readiness skills development. Throughout the year, participants at Eastern maintain their garden space and greenhouse, create added-value products using their garden’s harvest, lead workshops, and sell/donate their products and produce back to the local communities.

Workday Details: We will convene at 10:00 AM within the garden for a quick introduction before splitting up into smaller working groups. Tasks for this workday will include garden maintenance activities such as weeding pathways and beds, watering plants, and getting the space ready for spring. Please dress in weather-appropriate, outdoor work clothes as well as closed-toe shoes. Participants are always encouraged to bring water bottles, sunscreen, and bug spray. City Blossoms will provide all gloves and tools. Please note that City Blossoms will host this workday rain or shine, unless otherwise specified.

Parking Instructions: There are typically limited spaces available within the school’s parking lot (behind the school’s tennis courts) as well as along the residential side streets.

Metro Instructions: This garden is about a 5-minute walk from the Stadium-Armory Metro Station (Orange/Blue/Silver line). It is also easily accessible by way of the 96, 97, U5, U6, W4 buses (East Capitol St. & 49th St. NE), which is a 5-minute walk away.

Let's nurture our connection with the Earth and each other!
